Participating in a Family Constellation is a powerful experience. It is quite true that you benefit regardless if the focus is on you – you are constantly learning and growing from the healing of others. Personally, my constellation guided me in processing an unfinished loss, that I was unaware even needed any attention. It left me feeling more free and restored.

I will preface these remarks by saying that I have been privileged to see several of the well-known international facilitators, and I am not easily impressed. As a former teacher, I really respect Mark’s teaching skills. He prepares a good foundation for workshop participants to understand the process, without overwhelming them with too much or too complicated explanations. During the question and answer sessions afterward, I liked the way Mark was able to share his insights with the group while honoring the client's needs and vulnerabilities.
I was especially impressed with his sensitivity, coherence, clarity, respectfulness, and observation skills. During the constellations, Mark was focused, and could modulate between depth and playfulness. His patience and gentleness with the client provided a safe space for them to face their issues, but he was not afraid to be strong and say no when appropriate.
Sometimes, I have seen clients who seemed so overwhelmed by the intensity of the experience that they were unable to verbalize their thoughts or answer questions asked by other facilitators. I was keenly aware of how Mark never demeaned the client or created detrimental stress by pressuring them to move faster than they could progress in the process.
Mark is fully present, and even at the end of a complicated constellation could come up with a detail mentioned in the first phase, and use that information to deepen the work and to reveal to the client that he listened, he heard, he remembered, he cared, and he had the skill to fully address the overall dynamics that were involved.
My impression of his training program is that he thoroughly addressed numerous aspects of preparing students to become skilled facilitators as well as raising their consciousness about professional responsibilities and logistical duties.
Mark’s sense of humor, his references to pop culture and classical literature, his careful attention to creating a comfortable and fulfilling experience for the workshop participants were also appreciated.
I feel very fortunate to have been present for several of Mark’s workshops, and have recommended his work to others. Mark Johnson has been a friend, colleague, and mentor during my 9 years of study of Family Constellations. I've had the opportunity to study with Mark and have enjoyed his ability to bring to words the subtle variations of energy dynamics in the many constellations we have witnessed together.

My experience with Family Constellations began in October of 2006 when I attended my first workshop with Mark Johnson. I was at a time in my life when I was going through some tough times; everything for me seemed to quickly turn in to a crisis. I desperately needed something and I was willing to try anything. I had no idea what to expect from the experience and I was fairly nervous going in to it. What I found was the only thing I had to be nervous about was facing my own issues. I was able to do this because Mark fosters a very safe environment with which to face these issues and he does it with a gentleness and care that I had never experienced before.
At the time I wanted to blame my parents, especially my father for the ill’s in my life. What I didn’t realize was that in doing so I was cutting myself off from the love and support that flows from my parents and not just my parents but from all of my ancestors. I had been seeing my parents and the world through the eyes of a child, and for the first time, through Family Constellations work, I was able to see and feel my father, as I never had before, as a man with his own challenges and issues. It changed not only the way I see my father, but the world around me. It opened me up to the flow of love, gifts and strengths from my parents and through them my ancestors as well.
The work I did my first workshop and subsequent workshops has helped change the quality of not only my life, but the lives of my wife and children as well. I am now a happier, more grounded person because of this work and much easier to live with. This is not to say that I no longer face challenges in my life, I do, but I am now able to face them from a new healthier place and I am grateful to Mark for introducing me to this work.
Family Constellations is powerful work, it is truly something to be experienced. It is often difficult to describe because it so experiential and it can be so moving for the participants on many different levels. I have found that when Mark is facilitating I get completely engrossed in the experience and often I am touched on emotional levels that I had forgotten about and I did not expect to find again. I would recommend this work to anyone. All it takes is an open mind and a willingness to let your heart expand in new directions.
Mark’s experience, kindness, humor and good nature shines very brightly as he lights up the room while facilitating constellations and helping people face quite often difficult issues in their lives. Mark is able to rapidly move through and look past old stories and help reveal the underlying and unseen or unrecognized parts of our past that may be having an effect on the quality of our lives. To me it is like he gently wields scalpel that is able to cut through old hardened tissue of the past and in its wake, leaves new and healthy tissue that is reconnected to the love and strength of our past. It has been is an honor for me to be able to participate in his workshops. He is truly a Master at the art and practice of Family Constellations.
